Work with enthusiasm, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Remember that the Lord will reward each one of us for the good we do, whether we are slaves or free.

How do we do work right? How do we do it with honor, respect, and a heart of gratitude? For many, work is a very hard place to be. Maybe you don’t like the work you’re doing, or maybe the people you work with are very challenging. It might be very difficult to stand up for Jesus in your job.
One day as I was walking outside, I came across a trail of ants. I stopped to watch them. As I did, God impressed on my heart a few things. First, they had dedication to getting the job done. These tiny little creatures devoted themselves to finishing a job. They worked hard and then one after the other continued to focus on their mission without distraction. Second, the heaviness of the “goods” carried on their backs. Some of the items were twice their size! How did they do that? Weren’t they worn out? Yet, they kept going and going. Third, I couldn’t hear them complaining. I know this one sounds silly, but don’t we tend to complain all the time? They worked together to complete the job. It was truly amazing.
During those moments of careful study, I was taught a life lesson. To be a diligent and earnest worker is to honor God. I have the ability to share who God is by my work ethics.
Roy Lesson wrote these beautiful words that fit into “working as for the Lord…”
Take His hand, even though it means letting go of what you are holding on to.
Please His heart, even though it may not please others.
Wait for His time, even though your desire is to get it done now.
Obey His Word, even though you hear something different that is popular.
Follow His path, even though you see a valley ahead.
Trust His wisdom, even though you want to do it differently.
Give Him praise, even though you are going through something unpleasant.
Be at rest, even though you have every reason to worry or fear.
Thought of the day: What would it be like to remember each day who you are working for and serving? Our true boss is God. Begin each day this week with a prayer to serve God wholeheartedly in your job.
Prayer: God, move in my heart today and help me do my work for You. Help me make wise decisions and keep my eyes focused on the path You have set before me. Give me the courage and faith to follow Your will, even if it means taking risks. Equip me with the patience and endurance to stay the course, despite the many obstacles I might face. Help me to stay true to You. Amen.
