Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

In the movie, “A Few Good Men,” there is an epic verbal exchange in a Marine military court between Tom Cruise and Jack Nicholson. The character played by Tom Cruise is interviewing the witness, played by Jack Nicholson, and says with strong conviction, “I want the truth!” To which Nicholson emphatically replies, “You can’t handle the truth!”
This reminds me of another epic courtroom scene where Jesus is being wrongly accused and is brought before the Roman Governor Pontius Pilate. You can read the dialogue between Pilate and Jesus in John 18:33-38. In verse 37, we find Jesus answering Pilate with strong conviction. “You are a king, then!” said Pilate. Jesus responded, “You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.”
In a court of law, the witness—when knowing they are telling the truth—can say so with clarity, confidence, and conviction. The Lord Jesus Christ tells us we can handle the truth when we put our trust in Him.
In fact in John 14:6, He describes Himself as the Way and The Truth and Life!
Then over in I John 5:11-13 we read:
And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. The last verse says you “may know” with clarity, confidence and conviction that you belong to Him and have eternal life!
Thought of the day: When Jesus states that one of the very reasons He came here was to testify – to give His honest account of who He is, then He states with clarity, confidence and conviction to Pilate that, “You say rightly that I am a king.”
Prayer: Jesus thank You that when I place my trust in you, I CAN state the TRUTH with clarity, confidence and conviction that you love me and have given me eternal life. These things are written in order that I may know this.
